Musical tastes vary. They are influenced by things like the listener’s personal history, musical experience and the culture in which one grows up. Understanding why people like the music they do is therefore a big endeavor. One thing that may explain musical preference is the listener’s characteristic way of thinking, feeling and functioning in the world, i.e. personality.
In this post, we review research that attempt to connect indicators of personality with preferences for music and consider how this information may help us to understand ourselves in a different way.
